The SVA Impact Investing team connects private capital to the social sector developing opportunities for investors seeking both a social and financial return. SVA has a broad and established investor base, ranging from High Net Worth’s, Trusts and Foundations and large Superannuation funds.
SVA is a leader in the Australian Impacting Investing market with a unique mandate to deliver risk-adjusted returns to its investors alongside measurable social impact. This broad mandate covers unlisted debt, private equity, real assets and infrastructure investments.
SVA launched Australia’s first Social Impact Bond in 2013 and is now one of the largest dedicated fund managers in this growing sector. In addition to funds management, SVA offers structuring and advisory services to its clients in order to develop and bring Impact Investment products to the market.
The Executive Director, Impact Investing will lead and build SVA’s burgeoning Impact Investing practice across a diverse range of investments, increasing funds under management to $0.4bn by 2020. The role requires broad engagement across strategy, deal sourcing and structuring, due diligence, and oversight of portfolio management.
The position leads a highly experienced team focused on three related opportunity areas:
social, affordable and disability housing; and
social impact bonds.
SVA’s Impact Investing team has established working relationships with investors across High Net Worth individuals, Trusts and Foundations and institutional (superannuation fund) investors in addition to governments and social purpose organisations, which enables it to develop innovative investment products (e.g. new impact investing funds, housing and social infrastructure products and social impact bonds) that deliver social impact and financial returns.
The Executive Director, Impact Investing develops and nurtures high-value relationships with a breadth of key stakeholders, including government; Not for Profit organisations, social and commercial enterprises; and the investor community.
The key responsibilities of this position are:
Strategic leadership and practice development
Lead and develop SVA’s burgeoning Impact Investing practice to grow the scale of the practice to $200-400m of assets under management/advice by 2020
Develop and implement the strategy for SVA’s Impact Investing practice to achieve the scale and impact objectives including considering competitive positioning, detailed growth targets and marketing approach
Manage the priorities of the Impact Investing team to ensure the right mix between business development, transactional and portfolio management activity and relationship management
Provide thought leadership across the market being visible as an influential and a respected voice at key forums and through multiple mediums including media, government roundtables, ministerial briefings, conferences etc.
Transaction execution and portfolio management
Oversee all aspects of the transaction process including opportunity identification, transaction origination, due diligence, structuring, documentation, investment committee approval and closing the transaction
Oversee the portfolio of investments to deliver expected social and financial returns
Lead the development of novel investment products to achieve social and financial outcomes (e.g. new impact investing funds and social impact bonds)
Ensure products, practices and reporting frameworks are in place to measure social impact and financial returns
Oversee and convene SVA’s Investment Committees
Ensure robust systems, processes and reporting frameworks are in place to ensure regulatory compliance
Represent SVA’s interests as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of SVA’s investee
Fundraising and relationship management
Develop and manage relationships with investors (including High Net Worth individuals, Trusts and Foundations and institutional investors/ superannuation funds) to ensure continued and growing access to capital
Develop and nurture high-value relationships with other stakeholders to ensure the development of additional financing opportunities, including:
government (e.g. Secretary/ Deputy Secretary of departments to ministerial level to inform practice around investment in social and affordable housing, Social Impact Bonds, payment by outcomes etc.)
Not for Profit organisations, social enterprise and commercial enterprise (i.e. CEO/ CFO/Boards of potential investees)
Team leadership and management
Lead, develop and manage a growing and ambitious team in a rapidly evolving field including team structure, workload, budget and capacity across origination, deal execution and relationship management
Identify, implement, and track annual team objectives in generating both financial and demonstrable social returns for investors
Support the professional development and growth of all members of SVA’s Impact Investing team.
SVA leadership and collaboration
As an active and contributing member of SVA’s Executive Committee, represent Impact Investing at the leadership level
Participate in the development of SVA strategic objectives and priorities and help identify opportunities for innovation and growth
Support the implementation of SVA’s strategy to ensure the overall success of the organisation
