Since 2008, Social Traders has been a pioneer in the development of Australia’s social enterprise sector.

We help social enterprises grow by connecting them to market opportunities with business and government buyers. To date, we have worked with more than 4,000 social enterprises – across different stages of maturity.

In 2017, we made the strategic decision to focus on unlocking the significant potential of Australia’s $600 billion social enterprise procurement market. We believe this represents the greatest untapped opportunity to generate positive, sustainable social impact and change.

Having reached our target of facilitating $105 million in procurement spend two years ahead of schedule, we’ve decided to significantly scale our ambitions in the next 5 years.

To realise this evolving and exciting opportunity, Social Traders is hiring several key roles in the organisation to drive momentum. Is this opportunity for you?

The role

This Head of Marketing & Partnerships position is perfect for someone looking to create significant impact. It’s a senior leadership role within Social Traders, and reports directly to the Managing Director. It plays a critical role in supporting the ongoing planning and implementation of the organisation’s strategy.

The Head of Marketing & Partnerships is responsible for a team of up to three people, which you will hire in the first few months to ensure appropriate resourcing to meet strategic organisational requirements. This role is also supported by a small roster of external agencies, including a digital/web agency, PR agency and graphic design freelancer. It is also a hands-on role. We are a for purpose organisation and are all very active in the day-to-day operations, collaborating as a team.

Together you and your team are responsible for two key areas of our organisation:

  1. Growth Marketing, Communications & Events
  2. Partnerships strategy and development

… with the following objectives for each:

Growth Marketing, Communications and Events

  • Position Social Traders’ national leadership role in Social Procurement and Social Traders certification, partnering with the Market Development team
  • Build ‘category’ awareness – in social enterprise procurement, partnering with the Market Development team
  • Build brand awareness of Social Traders and our role in social procurement in Australia, through thought leadership Digital marketing execution, including social media and the website experience
  • Content and communications, including content generation across our services and various stakeholders
  • Generate and nurture leads for new buyer members and Social Enterprises – this is a ‘new to Social Traders’ capability – you will work with the Market Operations team for customer insights and execution
  • Oversee the events strategy and effective execution of the events program, currently the primary face to face marketing activity connecting customers, and including our annual conference
  • Partner with the market operations team to build scalable engagement campaigns for our existing customers, leveraging existing activities with full consideration of financial and resource capacity
  • Build low touch reporting capabilities, leveraging current and future tools
  • Managing the Marketing budget

Partnerships strategy and development

  • Generate, manage and report on non-trading income from Government and Philanthropic partners
  • Engage and retain engage key external stakeholders in conjunction with the Managing Director
  • Build the brand across new potential government and philanthropic stakeholders
  • Build engagement and retention programs for our existing customers, leveraging existing activities with full consideration of financial and resource capacity
  • Identify, define and build a roadmap to ‘tool up’ Social Traders to effectively meet its business and marketing objectives – optimising Salesforce CRM, Salesforce Community Pages portal and yet to be identified marketing automation tools
  • Build low touch reporting capabilities, leveraging current and future tools

About you

The successful candidate will be an experienced marketer, with significant business to business experience and ideally stakeholder engagement or partnerships growth. Given the broad set of responsibilities for this role, we are open to seeing different profiles and experiences – if you are stronger in one area than another, we will build your team accordingly.

You are a proactive strategic thinker, comfortable working with ambiguity, adapt at building new capabilities and comfortable with experimentation. Collaboration is second nature to you – and is your preferred way of operating.

While you may have worked with big budgets and teams in the past, you are not fazed by limited resources typical of the not for profit sector. In fact, you relish the opportunity. Not for profit or social enterprise experience is not essential, but a passion and commitment to supporting positive social impact is. A desire to be active and ‘on the tools’ as well as a manager of a team, is really important too.

Requirements for this role

  • 10+ years’ experience in Marketing – with senior leadership experience, managing budgets, teams and collaborating with senior stakeholders and customers
  • We’re looking for strengths in a combination of digital marketing, partnerships, external stakeholder/Government relations or content and communications skills
  • Experience generating funding from Government & philanthropic partners
  • Experience successfully building long-term and effective strategic external partnerships, and strong external stakeholder relationship management
  • Demonstrated experience building and implementing lead generation and nurturing programs, ideally in a business-to-business services environment
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience identifying and implementing marketing automation
  • Demonstrated experience managing and implementing change
  • Demonstrated experience improving marketing processes, balancing effectiveness and efficiency
  • Strong track record building and managing happy, high functioning teams
  • Degree qualified in Marketing, with postgraduate qualifications viewed favourably

The deal

Social Traders is flexible on how this role can be done – they are focussed on finding the best person for the role, however they want to work!

  • Location: We are based in Melbourne’s CBD
  • Days/hours: 4 days/week or open to more – tell us what works for you
  • Salary: $150k including super (full-time equivalent)
  • Partial NfP salary benefits
