About the role

The charitable environment sector is highly competitive with an ever-increasing number of charities being registered, well-known international environmental organisations establishing offices in Australia and for-profit organisations seeking to supplement income streams from philanthropic sources.

We are in a growth phase and are increasing our programs and national reach by forging partnerships with a range of stakeholders including other philanthropic entities, businesses, Government agencies and conservation organisations to promote our cause.

The Operations Fundraising Manager will be a member of the fundraising team to grow and sustain the Foundation’s revenue to support the delivery of our work and maximise our impact for conservation. The role is to manage the fundraising operations once donors and supporters have been signed up.

 

Responsibilities

Supporting the fundraising process and initiatives, while managing the fundraising operations, this will involve;

  • Developing, maintaining and where required, implementing, specific fundraising programs that ensure the delivery of the Foundation’s Fundraising Strategy. This includes individual donors, major donors, grants, philanthropic foundations, corporate partnerships and bequests.
  • Maintaining the CRM system with account action plans and collaborating with the account owners to ensure these are completed.
  • Nurturing our special partnership with Government to ensure these relationships continue to build and to attract opportunities with other conservation partners nationally.
  • Managing and developing relationships with private & corporate donors, sponsor and partners.
  • Informing and encouraging supporters of the need to include a legacy or bequest to the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife in their Wills.
  • Researching and building new income sources, to ensure the Foundation has a sustainable funding base.
  • Preparing, in conjunction with the Marketing and Project Manager, the sales material required to provide well targeted proposals to potential partners.
  • Working with the Communications and Marketing Manager to develop and manage a proactive communications and events plan as well as developing & implementing actions for strengthening relationships with existing individual major donors and grow their contributions.
  • Researching, identifying and securing grants from philanthropic bodies (and government departments) to support administration costs, specific campaigns, projects and organisational needs.
  • Contributing to the Foundation’s organisational planning, development, operational and evaluation processes and activities.
  • Supporting other members of the Foundation team and assisting them in specific activities particularly the development of client account management.
  • Reporting regularly against KPI’s and report progress of fundraising programs to internal stakeholders in liaison with the CEO.
  • Ensuring that the Foundation’s fundraising programs and activities reflect current best practice and to ethical and professional standards.

 

Required knowledge, skills & experience

  • Proven experience of managing relationships with key private, corporate donors, sponsors and partners that have ‘signed up’ to FNPW.
  • Experienced at managing the operations of a fundraising department.
  • Proven experience and an outstanding track record of success in fundraising or relationship management in the philanthropic, not-for-profit and/or environment sector (5 years) in Australia, with a focus on managing of major gifts, corporate partnerships and bequests.
  • Knowledge of the components of a comprehensive fundraising program, and of the issues of fundraising for a similar not for profit organisation.
  • Demonstrated relationship skills with corporates, government, the community, senior professionals and major donors.
  • Proven experience in setting, achieving and reporting upon goals and targets.
  • Knowledge of the philanthropic sector in Australia and understanding of current issues affecting the sector and donors;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for a varied audience of stakeholders and communication mediums including preparing prospectus, reports and articles.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and implement sales and operational plans.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of current business practices, processes and corporate governance, managing and monitoring budgets.
  • Willingness to travel to customers location and liaise face-to-face with managers and supporters.
  • Experience in using standard business software packages and donor databases.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in marketing, fundraising or a related field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues affecting natural and cultural heritage conservation

The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife is Australia’s foremost philanthropic partner for national parks, especially in relation to acquiring land to add to the public national parks estate and offering grants in support of threatened species, cultural heritage and park facilities. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors and is an independent, non-government charity. The Foundation has provided more than $60 million in grants since 1970 for:

  • land conservation of national parks and other high value conservation lands
  • wildlife research and threatened species recovery
  • cultural heritage conservation in parks for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sites
  • environmental education, interpretation and awareness-raising for schools and the wider community.

The Foundation is a national organisation. It works in partnership federal and state agencies, researchers and conservation groups responsible for national parks and wildlife conservation.

The Foundation focuses on funding projects that benefit Australia’s system of protected areas and native wildlife and enhance the environmental education outcomes. These projects primarily occur in national parks but can extend to off-park connectivity conservation programs, captive breeding and research programs and involve partners in other states. Funding is limited by constitution to natural and cultural heritage conservation in Australia.

 

Our offer

  • Permanent part time: 3 days / week
  • Based in our Sydney CBD office (2 min walk from Circular Quay)
  • $120,000 inclusive of super, full time equivalent (that equates to $72,000 for the 3 days)
  • Willingness to travel to customers’ location and liaise face-to-face with managers and supporters. This would include national travel and we’d expect to be 3-4 times/year.
